SoC(System on Chip)

Soc Design Lab. 바로가기
Image processing techniques play an important role in high-tech industries, such as self-driving vehicles, medical imaging machines, and space exploration. Recently, as interest in autonomous driving has increased, research based on Deep Learning and Machine Learning has been actively conducted by combining AI with visibility improvement technologies for lane and object recognition. Accordingly, system semiconductor (SoC: System on Chip) implementation are crucial for this purpose. Meanwhile, global corporations, such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix in our country, have focused on memory-technology development and manufacturing to keep the largest global market share continuously. However, in order to become a comprehensive semiconductor powerhouse, it is necessary to secure technical skills in the system semiconductor field, which accounts for more than 70% of the global semiconductor market. As a result, the demand for manpower is increasing very much as our government is pushing for various policies to foster the system semiconductor industry, Therefore, in the system semiconductors with many varieties and small-scale production characteristics, master's and doctorate-level personnel are very needed for technology development.

Graduate students in this lab are mainly studying image signal processing algorithms, and are working on developing machine learning/deep learning technologies using C/C++, MATLAB, and Python (especially, TensorFlow framework for deep learning development), those widely preferred by high-tech companies. These algorithms are then designed using Verilog computer language to implement circuits using automatic logic-circuit synthesizer software. Finally, using FPGA SoC hardware boards that can modify the synthesized logic circuits tens of thousands of times, lab members are improving a great body of their ability to verify high-speed real-time operations over 500MHz in both software and hardware domains. As mentioned above, our lab substantially conducts research on algorithm designs and system semiconductor implementations required in industrial sites. Through this laboratory environment, the future employment path for students is very wide. Furthermore, thanks to continuous communication with senior lab graduates, students can prepare for recent changes in industry technology and recruitment.
